Notes
General Note
"This microfilm is from the collection of the Virginia State Archives, Richmond, Virginia." The 1815 land tax records for enumerating land and personal property in accordance with tax laws passed by the General Assembly of Virginia provide information for Monongalia County, formed in 1776 from that portion previously set aside as the West Augusta District of Augusta County, Virginia. Later, some land was ceded to Harrison, and Preston County, and parts of Marion and Taylor Counties were formed from the Monongalia County, Virginia [now part of West Virginia]. Names are given with distance/direction from the 1815 courthouse.
