FBI agent Clarice Starling interviews serial killer Hannibal Lecter in prison, hoping to gain psychological insight and clues to the actions of another serial killer on the loose. Lecter, a brilliant but demented psychiatrist with a taste for human flesh, has an agenda all his own, and plays mind games with Starling.
